The old wharf at Mana Bay has almost completely decomposed due to the harsh waters of the South Taranaki Straight, but it is still the focus of many strikingly beautiful photographs. Mana Bay's black sandy beach separates Patea Beach from the mouth of the Patea River. River mouths often have dangerous rips and currents. Swimmers beware! The area is stunning to explore by boat and natural walkways connecting to this beach.
